Video DVD

The first window that shows up for the Video DVD settings allows you to manipulate the DVD navigation and remove some unwanted material.

Video DVD Settings
  • Remove annoying clips from menus

This option will remove annoying clips like FBI warnings from the menu domain of a DVD. It uses the “AI scanner” to find out, if a clip inside a menu is useful or not. This is very useful, if you watch DVDs on your home theatre PC. Removed clips will not be copied by programs like CloneDVD, so the video quality of the copy may increase.

  • Remove annoying intro and outro clips from menus

This option will remove annoying intro / outro clips from the menu domain of a DVD. These clips are short movies which play before or after a menu selection. It uses the “AI scanner” to find out, if a clip inside a menu is useful or not. This is very useful, if you watch DVDs on your home theatre PC. Removed clips will not be copied by programs like CloneDVD, so the video quality of the copy may increase.

  • Remove annoying titles shorter than

This option will remove all unwanted clips like FBI warnings shorter than the specified time from the title domain of a DVD. This is very useful, if you watch DVDs on your home theatre PC. Removed clips will not be copied by programs like CloneDVD, so the video quality of the copy may increase.

  • Show Dialog to set Video DVD settings for each individual Drive

With this option enabled AnyDVD will display a settings dialog each time a Video DVD is inserted.

Tip

You ought to try to remember which settings you have changed and which effect this has had, but if not, do not worry. Just hit the “Default” button. It might become your best friend in the first few days.

Settings

These are the core settings when it comes to decrypting a movie DVD. We recommend to leave the settings unchanged. For 99% of the cases the default values are the best option to go with.

Video DVD Navigation Settings
  • Default Region

Here you can specify the default region AnyDVD will use, if the inserted DVD is either region free, or has RCE (Region Code Enhancement). If you use RCE protected discs, make sure, that you specify the correct region here!

  • Software Region Code

Removes the Region Code from the DVD. The DVD will appear region free to all software.

  • Hardware Region Code: Simulate RPC2 drive with matching region

AnyDVD will simulate a RPC2 drive which matches the disc’s region. If the disc is region free or RCE protected, AnyDVD will use the default region you have specified.

  • Region Code Scripts

This will disable Region Code Scripts. It is useful if you want to copy a DVD with CloneDVD, because it removes the RCE (Region Code Enhancement) protection.

  • Analog Protection System

This will remove Analog Protection System (Macrovision) from your DVD.

  • Prohibited User Operations

This will remove all user prohibited operations (not allowed to change or disable subtitles, not allowed to skip copyright notice). Please note, that sometimes user actions which were prohibited will now lead to a “dead end” and your player software may behave strange or may even crash.

  • PC-Friendly (Autorun on Video DVD)

This will disable “AutoRun” on Video discs. This is an effective way to prevent software, that has been put on the DVD together with the movie, to start automatically.

  • Copy Protection based on unreadable Sectors

If this option is checked, AnyDVD will change the .IFO files on the DVD in a way, that a copy program like Elaborate Bytes’ CloneDVD will not try to copy the bad sectors of a DVD copy protection, and will be able to successfully make a copy. Bad sectors will be replaced with empty sectors, so other copy programs (e.g., CloneCD 5, DVD Shrink) or simple file copy will work, too. You should enable this option, if you wish to copy a DVD with CloneDVD or a similar program.

  • CSS Mastering Errors

This option is disabled by default. Only enable this option for discs with known CSS mastering errors, e.g. “Go”, R2, Germany. Such discs will usually not play in many DVD players like the PS3.

  • AI Scanner:

  • Disabled: AI Scanner is always off, heuristic scanner will be used. This setting should only be used for troubleshooting!
  • Automatic: AI Scanner will be used, if needed.
  • Always Enabled: AI Scanner will always be used, even on unprotected discs. This setting should only be used for troubleshooting!

Tip

You ought to try to remember which settings you have changed and which effect this has had, but if not, do not worry. Just hit the “Default” button. It might become your best friend in the first few days.

Subtitles

AnyDVD allows you to set a subtitle transparency. Not everyone loves bold subtitles to cover a part of the screen throughout a movie.

Video Subtitle Settings
  • Subtitle Transparency

You can specify the transparency of all DVD subtitles & subpictures. This can be helpful if you use a projection system to watch DVDs, because bright subtitles can reduce the contrast of the picture.

CSS Keys

Video DVD CSS Key Settings

AnyDVD keeps archives of all CSS Keys it has cracked in the registry. This is done, because cracking can take some time. If you insert a DVD for the second time, AnyDVD will retrieve the key from the key archive instead of cracking it again.

You can view, export, edit or delete any of the stored keys if you like:

  • To edit the key double-click it. You can use the “Enter” key on your keyboard as well.
  • To delete the key select it and use the right mouse button to open a menu. You can use the “Delete” key on your keyboard as well.
  • To import an exported key, please double-click the exported file. This will import it using Windows Registry Editor.

Tip

On rare occasions, AnyDVD will report that not all CSS keys could be cracked on a DVD and it will guess the keys. AnyDVD is very good at guessing keys and usually you won’t notice any issues on the copy.
